The UpBeat Zine is a BRAND NEW SKA ZINE dedicated to covering ska bands, shows, CD reviews, the scene, and the like.

Our first issue will probably be out in March or so; SkaDanny had been awesome enough to offer to sell some copies of the 'zine in upstate NY and around that area if you are interested in 'picking one up'.
They will probably go for a dollar or so; this is a very low budget project as of now.

Just for kicks, why is the response to an article on Against Me so negative?

i hate their new cd, hence my negative response. a lot of people on this forum will be glad to tell you why they dislike them, given their alleged "selling out." i dont know anything about it so i wont pretend i will, i'll pass that priveledge to whoevers willing to contribute......

It isn't AM!'s fault. Everyone went nuts over them when they really shouldn't have.

edit: and for the record, my negative reaction to the idea of an AM article is that you claimed it was a ska zine. AM is not ska. (that and i don't like them=)

I should really be giving you free copies Danny, considering how much of your music I have taken.

I was figuring that everyone's negative reaction would be first and foremost the reason that they are a non-ska band in a ska zine. But we want to do one or two things non-ska per issue I believe, just to give the emo.indie.hXc kid who randomly picks up a copy something to relate to and whatnot. A little break from all the ska, yanno.

Plus we were going to have Fritz write the AM! article, which would pretty much result in "Against me! sold out".

So what you're saying is you were going to let him write an unoriginal, predictable, uninspired piece? I think it would be more interested to take a stand and defend them.

And, a wouldn't mind a free copy. I'm not going to lie, I also wouldn't mind doing some sort of writing if I find free time. Let me know. I'll catch you on AIM when I don't have 250 pages of Freud and a chapter of Spanish to learn...

Fritz is like.... an Against Me! expert. He'd get all the bases covered, believe me. Greg was hoping he would help us out but apparently he refused or something. I don't know, that was Greg's task, he just said it wasn't happening and we left it at that.

A looottt of people have actually asked to help us write! It's pretty amazing, we're receiving phenomenal help and support.

Tell me when you're done with the penis guy so that I can consult you for a couple of things !

this sounds like a cool prospect, but will it be ska only? i think sometimes people who are into ska forget there's other music.

i'm not saying anyone here is - and trust me i love ska. but i know i ignored all music except ska when i went through my ska stage.

i always wanted to start a zine... actually i think i just wanted to do everything my older sister and her friends did... they owned a label (mindkill records, if anyone here is old enough to remember that), in bands, and made zines. i successfully did the run a label thing (even if there are two artists on it and its really in the starting stages now) and i'm in a band.

WOO HOO I WRITE A LOT.
