Yep.
It's true.

The strongest part of Long Island ska now is that RBF is covering Edna's Goldfish.

Let Me Crazy is Chris Baltrus' new project (that's not so new). I think Jimmy is more along for the ride on this one. He's also in Rocky Sullivans which is Sean McCabe's new(est) toy.

And yeah, The Fad pretty much was the strongest thing LI had going for it right now. Local shows just got a lot less interesting for me. Royal City Riot better keep it going otherwise...well, otherwise I don't know...

The fad broke up...

...and there was much rejoicing. Especially at 38 Lisbon.

I'm pretty sure the strongest part of Long Island ska was and still is BTMI. Just sayin.

either way, good band, loss to the scene.

BTMI is basically Jeff. Jeff lives in Brooklyn now. Before that, he lived in Athens. Before that he lived in Queens. He hasn't lived on LI since before To Leave or Die dropped. They're still involved in it, but they actually pretty much never play LI shows because they always go poorly.

Brooklyn and Queens may not be IN Long Island, but they are both ON Long Island.

This is true. Jeff and I have argued the point that you can't be IN Long Island since it's not a county (it's Nassau and Suffolk) but rather an island. Queens and Brooklyn are on the same island as the two counties that are referred to as LI. You're right.

Queens and Brooklyn bands though are usually considered part of the NYC scene. Not that it matters much. I was just being obnoxious. I'm pretty sure everyone knows BTMI is one of my favorites. It doesn't much matter where Jeff lives...as long as he hates it...

I just wanted to show off what I know by having lived with John from TFT. That's all.

Really, though, if the Fad's last shows were announced as such more than 2 weeks in advance, I would fly out for them. I'm so bummed that I don't even get to say a proper goodbye, and it sucks because I know I may not see some of my friends in that band ever again.

Iron Chic. Get Bent. Small Arms Dealer.
Plus I heard Red vs Blue is pretty great.
There are punk bands, that are really good, but they don't like to promote to people outside their friends.
Just try and follow Dead Broke Recerds, they put out good LI punk.

...Long Island is full of douches anyway, so they don't need good bands.

Eh long island hasn't had a steady ska scene in a long time because there are no steady venues willing to put on all ages shows any more that aren't almost completely in the grasp of ticket selling conglomerates (sp?). As a result most of us in long island ska bands have had to travel off the island to play out at all to an all ages crowd. This will not change until a viable venue is opened.
