video quality sucks but i was sitting there in the audience in auckland new zealand perpetually shitting my pants watching ernest ranglin and monty alexander play. best show i have ever seen hands down. i absolutely love ernest ranglin- pretty much everything he has put out is great- in search of the lost riddim is probably my least favorite album- some of his older stuff is great like sounds and power but the jamaican jazz albums like surfin and below the bassline are top notch- i picked up a great japanese import record of just monty alexander and ernest ranglin playing straight jazz together- no bass or drums, just piano/guitar. recorded on MPS back in 78 i think- check out Earl 'Chinna" Smith as well- great jamaican guitarist.....

Awesome, man. I used to have this album years ago. Now I just need to figure out what the album released around the same time featuring a saxophonist on Island Jamaica Jazz was.

ETA: Nevermind. Now I just need a copy of it.

I have another earnest ranglin and monty you didn't post here I think.

I love the jazz and smooth rocksteady grooves of this collaborative team - I have played this for several folks who are into jam stuff as a good crossover piece. They are absolutely sick on these.

ernest ranglin and monty alexander released "rocksteady" in 2004 or 05 i think? its good, but its also a lot of rehashed songs both of them have played on their own albums- and monty alexander plays on below the bassline which I feel is a far superior album- either way great musicians all around- i gotta get around to ripping that vinyl i have of monty and ernest ripping straight jazz together- can't find it any where online, can barely find any mention of the album anywhere- japanese imports are great (just not so great on the wallet.....)

Could you send me "in search of the lost riddim" by any chance?
Memories of Barber Mack is an amazing tune is probably my favorite song of the 3 albums you sent me.
The Toots cover is awesome too.

I actually don't have that album on mp3 but I will teach you a lil lesson on getting music

1. go to http://blogsearch.google.com/
2. type in artist name - album title- in this case "ernest ranglin - in search of the lost riddim"
3. press search..
4. slowly search through all of the hits, you'll find it even if it isnt the first link listed.
5. download.
6. enjoy.

great thing about the internet nowadays is the wealth of music posted on blogs, and it seems that nowadays the more obscure the album, the more likely you are to find it posted on line...

I just can't get over this guy. I wish I knew who he was when I first started playing guitar.
Easily my favorite now.
