Sup guys,

So my friend Josh and I are completely ripping off Quote Unquote and Community Records and making another donation-based record label. Right now, as we are currently in very early stages, all we have is a myspace page and some mediafire links, but soon we will be constructing an actual website.

Anyway, we've got some decent music up right now, and within the next semester or two, we'll be building to the base of contributing musicians. Some bands have signed on to this (and promised me new releases!) that I'm really excited about, that I should probably not announce until it actually happens, but whatever. If you like free music, PLEASE check it out!

Some musicians/bands currently involved in this project are:
Marx Revolution - Our new Hookers & Blow EP is up for free download. :)
Matt Wixson - The Free Edge EP
Babylon Party Machine - The Back Of My Hand EP
Tyrannosaurus Sex - Three Song Demo
Aaron Hibbert - Damn The Man (acoustic EP)

The Cutoff Frequency (awesome CT synth-pop-punk) has also agreed to release their new full length with us in the next few weeks. It's all on the site. Check it out!

Download music for free, and donate something if you feel so inclined.

Thanks guys,
Aaron

This idea is lame. Anyone can just email bands "WANNA DO A REKKKERD FO FREE?!"

Take some risk and put out a 12".

I'm gonna try and do some stuff next summer hopefully.
(Shitty pop punk don't worry)

I'm sorry. Don't download music for free then.

Haven't tried this approach yet.

I'd love to do one right now. Would you like to fund it? Otherwise... trust. It's in the works.

Free Record Lables seem like an unnecessary middle man.

First of all, it's not necessarily free. Second, by that logic, all record labels are unnecessary middlemen.

tru dat. in todays day and age, why do people really need labels other than funding? they can promote and sell their records online.

RBF and LTJ get along fine running their own business or releasing things on major labels. I'll get along fine running my own business or releasing things on free/donation labels.

Awesome. Good luck with this, Aaron. I'm glad to see more bands embracing this idea.

well the width and scope of promotion is generally much bigger from a label than an independent, which is a positive thing. plus distribution. its great to sell records online to everywhere, but theres nothing like going to any record store to pick a new album up.

you obviously have no idea how much work goes into effectively distributing records
just having a buy it now button on your myspace page isnt even close to enough exposure
building a network takes a serious amount of work and time
also making a few posts on message boards doesnt do the trick either as far as promotion goes

you can do all the work yourself, but an established label probably already has their distrobution set up
its not just about money, its about the connections

in short, you have no clue what youre talking about

i was only saying that labels aren't completely necessary. i'm not gonna front and pretend that i'm an expert on the music industry, but there are plenty of bands/artists that get along fine without them.
