Gimme a year or two. Hero knows anything and everything about recording and all that tech-y stuff, but I'm clueless. I'm planning on taking classes in college though, on top of learning what I can on my own. I'm determined to learn something in every field of music that I possibly can.. I just need time. Haha.

The secret ions recording was pretty good sounded, the "studio" stuff, not the live. All i use is guitar tracks from cakewalk, and i run my digitech straight into the computer. I used to use the microphone outlet, but now i've figured out that line in is the way to go. our old band was through there too, but i twas before i ran straight through and you can def. tell. When we recorded, we used a Fostex 8-track (16-track) digital recorder for the main setup, Shure microphones

Trumpet: Getzen 700 Special, Bb, pretty ghetto rigging: microphone sitting on top of a beanie on a shelf, with a sock for a windscreen (hey, whatever works)

Guitar: Ibanez SA160QM, Peavey Renown 212 (1984, baby!), DOD American Metal FX56 (for distortion, of course), monster cable Standard 100's

Bass: Stellar(?) 5-string, Ampdown head, " 4x10 (?) cabinet (i don't really know much about his bass gear)

Drums: you'll have to talk to Nick: that's his department

we actually used a sock as a mic screen and it worked really really good.

I've heard pantyhose and an old wire clothes hanger works really well as a wind screen; haven't tried it though.

Ghetto setups are always fun. When I first started getting into home recording back in 99', i recorded a 3 song demo for Sacrelicious with a PA system. Ha! Mic'd the horns with 57's and a few overhead mic's plus a vocal mic. Played with the EQ on the PA a little bit until it sounded okay then we played live, recording the live track on a tape deck hooked up to the tape output of the PA. It was ghetto, but got the job done.

Now days, it doesn't take much more effort and equipment to make a pretty decent demo using a PC, a few mic's, and free recording software. Learning a little about mixing, EQ, compression, & FX will also help out tremendously to a simple demo.
