This is a Syracuse band that has offered to do a show with Kingston Beat; it was mainly brought up by Spencer Murphy of Hobo Slobo because he is currently playing bass for Anorexic Beauty Queen. Keep in mind we've put many non ska bands on shows over the years and it's just a matter of figuring out if the band shares an audience with ours.

i don't want to be depressed at a ska show. it is to my understadning that they're whiney and emo? i don't really know, i've never seen them perform. But i agree that kingston should allow all sorts of bands play.

No offense to them because I've been told they are all cool guys, but I think their songs all sound the same. I love to see different bands at ska show but ABQ just won't fit.

I don't want to troll but, personally I think they're terrible. There is nothing special about them, they're a band that cares more about their looks then their actual music.

The music is meh.

My main problem with them is seeing what they would have to offer that would make them fun. The music (especially vocals) doesn't have much energy. If I had 'em on a show I would have them open while people were still coming in just so people have something to listen to but they aren't really missing much if they don't get there on time. We did it with Grandfather Clock here and it worked out pretty much the way we expected. Of put them in the middle of a set as a breather, something I tried to do with Ghost Tales, but it turned out better to have them play last and they had a lot of energy anyways so my plan wouldn't have worked.

Okay, you'll see that Anorexic Beauty Queen (ABQ) is now playing on the show with The Fad next Tuesday night.

Here's the deal:
1. The Argo-nots dropped off.
2. The Secret Ions can't do it.
3. No other Syracuse ska band can do it.
4. I called Spencer to see if Hobo Slobo could do it and they can't.
5. Spencer of Hobo Slobo now plays bass for ABQ.
6. Spencer was in the studio recording with ABQ and offered them instead.
7. They'll draw a lot of kids to this show.
8. Their set is less than 30 minutes.
9. Hopefully some of the ABQ fans will discover ska at this show.
10. We're more open-minded and accepting than emo kids and we'll prove that at this show. :P
11. Between RazSum, The Fad and Honeycreeper, you'll be skanking your ass off anyway.
12. Look at ABQ as take-a-breather time.
13. Now I'll shut up on this.

you guys could have just not started a thread about this band being at a ska show. i mean, you had no intention of actually listening to people. you were just going to take credit if people actually enjoyed them.

I dont know about this. ABQ sucks in my opinion, but I'm more worried that the kids that will show up to the show. Paranoia sorta makes me feel like a bunch of douche kids will try to start fights or mosh pits.

Could you have not just increased the set length of each band?

Could ABQ just be a breather at the begining of the show? An opener that no one will dance to.

Why would you say that? The matter wasn't ever going to be decided just by a vote, there are a number of issues and getting some imput from this message board was just one of them. 10 people here said they were interested, 11 wern't, a 50/50 ratio is not so strange for many bands that come through. Imput is important but saying it's pointless to give any and that the opinions expressed wern't taken into account is uncalled for.

I've seen ABQ numerous times, as Spencer will probably tell you their main audience is 14 year old girls; moshing or fight starting is not an issue.

Great, so there'll be MORE little girls kicking my legs from behind.

Not true. But I'm sorry if you thought we were saying "yes" or "no" based on a poll. I strongly suspect we'd have gotten about the same results for Daly's Gone Wrong from The Bronx, but we book them just the same. But from past experience, I know a lot of ska kids don't like the hardcore aspects of DGW and we always factor that in. And clearly there is hostility to ABQ on this show, but we have a better sense of that now, thanks.

Like Johanna points out, half the kids answering the poll so far actually like them, which surprises me. So, we're not ignoring opinions. But your mileage may vary.
