Wondering who you might consider some of the best current Upstate NY ska bands?

The Ops.

Hands down. If you disagree, go see a show. They play the music as it should be played, nothing is watered down. They play it incredibly well to boot. Felski is by far one of the best reggae drummers out there. You can't argue with that.

Public Access, they have a style that not many others (actaully none trhat i can really think of) have duplicated. Plus they have a bari sax and that just f*ck rocks!!

aw.
My vote goes to Hed 1st, even though their "current" status is questionable.
Runners up: The Naked Citizens & Monkey Gone Mad.

Definitely Public Access.
Raz Sum is at about the same level in terms of ability, but PA is more my style.

They blew me away the first time I saw them, and they've come a long, long way since then, especially with regard to being comfortable and confident on stage.

Haven't seen the Ops in about 3 years but they blew me away then... even though I was less than sober and locked in the Red House bathroom for most of their set. Awesome, awesome band.

The Ops.

No question about it.

I have not seen them since their new line up though. Hopefully I will be able to in the future.

I've been offering to bring them to Syracuse for awhile. And things are going well enough in Syracuse that we might be closer to what they have in mind. If anyone talks to them, have them call me sometime soon: 315-863-6013.
