"It is important for people to experience the entire album. Not just a track(s). The artist went into the studio and created a body of work."

I agree that the arrangement of songs on an album is part of the creation.

Victory has the right to say no to that channel of distribution.

But I say it's stupid to insist that people must use what you create exactly the way you intended it.

One of the great joys of creating is that people will (inevitably, I'd say) find new and surprising ways to interpret your work and integrate it into their lives.

I disagree with Victory records yes a cd is a complete body of work. The artist/ group did make an entire body of music. but truthfully how many people actually listen to an entire record. I also feel victory records is trying to do it for a more cynical reason, which could back fire which is you cant make as much money on a single song on Itunes than you can selling the entire record. I wouldn;t be very suprised if victory jumps on this soon enough. I have great respect for victory records if they truely are trying to just sell an entire for the basis of preserving an artists work.

I hope that really is their reason, because it's a very short-sighted business decision.

How could ANYONE have respect for Victory Records. They don't care about the "soul of music" blah blah they care about what trend bands can get them the most money. They can't get as much if people only get a few songs off the album compared to the whole album.

Not trying to divert here....but i thought Victory records were the ones who signed Taking Back Sunday, right? If you look back like....not even 2 years, Victory records had more bands that were actually good....and not just cookie cutter hardcore/emo combinations....and as far as an album being a complete work.....unless its a concept album, its a compilation of works. Victory Records is just looking to keep its face while still making millions upon millions of dollars, while its bands still play the same clubs for 4-5$ a pop. Im done ranting...sorry

The Tossers are on Victory, so anybody who says everybody on the label sucks gets a boot in the face.

Allright I live in a box and don't know who Victory Records are or what their reall reason are either but they make point. When I listen to cd I like to start from the first song all the way to the end or how ever far I can get. I'm not one just to listen to a few songs and forget about the rest. To me a single song is beutiful in its self but the entire cd is like a painting. No matter how much a single part of the painting is beatiful you wouldn't chop it up into little pieces. Like wise, though a single song can sound good my itself, you get more of an expirience listening to the entire record.

This is just my standing though.

You didn't. It was knee-jerk/preemptive on my part. The Tossers got added to the Pietasters show at the last minute and they were fantastic.

I agree that an album as a whole is a work of art. My favorite CDs clearly have a beginning, middle and end, a story in mood and tone, if not words.

But if you strictly apply that idea, then forget about samples on myspace/purevolume/websites, or "Best of" albums and compilations, 'cause that rips songs out of their "intended context".

Hell, forget about the "fast forward" button. Take the "intended presentation" idea too far, and suddenly I'm disrespectful for skipping a song. :P:P:P

yea, it would probably be in the best interest of everyone to live in the dead center of the road on all issues, but then again....where would individuality come into play? thus defeating the entire point and purpose of making music in the first place. Sorry about that......anyway, im just sick of people getting mad about kids downloading music, but, what can we do about that? absolutely nothing. anyway, im out
