david byrne at the landmark theater last night- holy shit very good show- he played tons of talking heads songs, and lots of great cuts of his albums w/ brian eno. he had some interpretive dancers on stage w/ him at all times, doing these weird dances- kinda distracting from the music- nice big band, w/ dancers there was 13 total people on stage. crazy- very steep ticket price $37 but it was well worth it- he played for close to 2 hours, w/ 3 encores- i've been a long time talking heads fan, and it was great to see some sort of reincarnation of the band.

ok commence shit talking

I saw this too. I don't think I really know too many people who are big David Byrne/ Talking Heads fans. I saw him when he came to the Landmark in 1989, but I was only 12 and he was playing all the Latin-influenced stuff, no Talking Heads.
So, essentially, I've been waiting about 25 years to heard Taling Heads songs from the guy that wrote them and it was extremely humbling to finally see him do it and do it well.
While sorta cliche'd, hearing him play "Once In a Lifetime" was a pretty life-affirming thing for me and "Air" was a total bonus as wll.
The new Byrne/Eno stuff was pretty good for the most part (particularly "Feel My Stuff"- the last song he played before beginning the encores). I think the keyboard player (who I guess is in Soul Coughing) really made the band, adding quite a bit.
Also, I think $37 wasn't too steep a price to pay for this, considering it's 2008 and smaller bands, offering a less entertaining show, are charing almost as much. The Landmark is a great setting, he played for 2 hours, and it was a really well put together show.
