Mephiskapheles

Mephiskapheles are back in red and black for 2013. The band who invented the devilish, whimsical MTV- and radio-friendly genre of Satanic Ska, then defied critics by exploring even greater possibilities for their darkly original ska fusion, have reunited with a new tour and new album in the works.

Formed in the East Village of New York City in early 1991 by a group of artists, ad-agency employees, and jazz musicians, Mephiskapheles played their first show on Long Island. From day one, the band began to attract a diverse, dedicated fan base.

Flash-forward to today with Satanic Ska being, without a doubt, the genre of music most relevant to our current times. Mephiskapheles are picking up where they left off, with a reissue program with Jump Up Records, a focused performance schedule, and a new Mephiskapheles album slated for 2014.

Mrs. Skannotto

Alternative ska-rock band Mrs. Skannotto releases "Outlier" —its latest and fifth full-length album — on April 1, on the literal eve of a new national tour. Created while the six members were taking a victory lap following two years of national touring, they have crossed the finish line with overflowing creative energy and a musical depth that comes only when experience and passion are this deeply rooted. From reggae and third-wave ska to punk and heavy rock, "Outlier" reflects the eclectic musical backgrounds and styles of the Rochester, N.Y.-based musicians.

Their music is an exploration of divergent musical genres that ultimately delivers an original and intriguing sound. Their new album explodes as the smooth yet powerful vocals blend with ambitious guitar grooves and the dramatic drums, bass, and horns drive the tracks' rhythmic energy and clever lyrics, making you think and then dance … and then hit the play button over and over again.

Mrs. Skannotto will build upon its fanbase in 2014 while supporting the new album, touring across the country with Mad Caddies in April and May. The tour begins in Reno and works its way to Manhattan with shows in major music cities like Austin and Chicago. Mrs. Skannotto is: Alex Bochetto (drums), Dan Carter (bass), Evan Dobbins (trombone), Mike Frederick (guitar), Joe Harmon (vocals), and Justin Lloyd (trumpet).
