sad news reached us last week of the untimely passing of record producer Leonard 'Santic' Chin. Leonard is remembered for his classic 70's roots productions issued on his Santic label and including early titles from Augustus Pablo, Paul Whiteman, Freddie McKay, Gregory Isaacs and Horace Andy. Later in the decade he produced Jah Woosh's Chalice Blaze LP before relocating to the UK where he was instrumental in the massive popularity of that peculiarly British phenomenon Lovers Rock. His hit productions on Donna Rhoden, Jean Adebambo, Carroll Thompson, Legato and Trevor Walters sold by the cartload and laid down the blueprints for the Lovers style. Leonard was a close associate of ours who will be sadly missed as one of the most humble and unassuming producers in the business. Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
