Sure, why not?

A guy that lived at Django's house in NJ for awhile is from Auburn. I know that because his family is always guest listed for Django's shows in Syracuse. So, they're probably paying Django to play a family party. No big deal.

FWIW, you can get pretty much any band to do these private events. The Slackers and NYSJE have done a lot of weddings, for example. I used to know a girl from Westchester County that first got exposed to ska from when NYSJE play her friends bar mitzvah -- she said the kids there were bored with them, but the adults were thrilled.

Likewise, you can rent just about anything. I grew up near Six Flags Magic Mountain and movie stars especially will rent the park out for private parties. Bruce Willis did at least once for Demi Moore's birthday, for example.

Some terribly wealthy woman in NJ booked an invite-only show for her daughter's birthday, and got the Slackers and TFT to play it. This, sadly, was 2 months before I joined.

I need to become a jew (half way there), have a bar mitzvah, and have NYSJE there...woooo. My wife had pondered hiring the slackers for my 30th...which is in two months...and sadly, not a reality.

This thread also reminds me of the NOFX album at Johnny's bar Mitzvah...where there is 5 min of dead air while the band retires to the ice cream station to have sundaes before playing a few final tunes.

Hahahaha. I remember all the drama in NJ while she was booking shows. Quite amusing from a distance.

Chris, you're totally wrong. That woman Kim, Pantz's mom, was crazy and FANTASTIC. Her husband is a billionaire (no exaggeration... they have framed copies of financial magazines he's been on the cover of), and she loves music. TFT stayed at her place many times after NJ shows, and she would feed us way too much, give each person their own bed or inflatable mattress, let us jam all night on her guitars, basses, keys, and electronic drums in her basement... best woman ever.

I'm sure most bands wish they had fans like that.

But imagine the chaos if Bill Gates decided to book ska shows. She was literally throwing money at high school ska bands for awhile, which severely distorted their view of their place in the world. At one point she wanted RazSum to play one of her shows and we passed because the drama factor was getting out of control. In fact, wasn't there a pretty well organized boycott of her shows around that time?

Check out the stories of people who have won the big lottery jackpots. Sudden wealth mostly causes severe problems, especially between friends and family. All of a sudden, no one treats you they way they did before and the distortions become mind numbing. Hollywood has the same problem. :rambo:

I am all for philanthropy but I would act broke as well. Lot of vultures lurking...

I'm done with said job in just about a week. When I get back from this lil tour I'm doing, I'll need to find a new source of income. I mean cover.
