Thanks to Twitch for starting this.

I made us a sorta icon that we can stick with until we get an actual one.

And I've made a link to it off the SyracuseSka.com site.

BTW, I'm hoping you all will stick with this messageboard for awhile. We just starting getting good convo going here and it'd suck if we broke that off too soon, ya know? If you started a new one, it'd be a lot quieter than this one. Once this one gets a lot busier, then it'd make more sense, I'd say.

But its nice to see things picking up again in Rochester. :D

In five years we could totally have a Rochester/Syracuse feud, kinda like the West Coast vs. East Coast rap feud.

That would rock.

Mike, remember when we had the East Coast ska verse West Coast ska war on TUTs? The East Coast won, of course.

You mean like "Open Season"? I thought Hepcat won that one, hands down. Django came in 3rd, seriously.

You're not getting rid of me that easily, and I know Mike can't pass up any venue to shoot his mouth off ;)

The MySpace profile (and community) are tools in the toolbox. I'll still be participate in the discussion and post Rochester show listings here, but more Rochester-centric stuff will end up on MySpace. That way we won't be clogging up your board with stuff about who can play on what dates, where the PA's coming from, discussion of local venues, etc. etc.

Furthermore, I have dreams of western NY as a glorious corridor that ska bands dream of playing through, and that's not gonna happen by sealing myself off in my own little sandbox.

hey guys...don't make it a band page...make it a group! that way you can have forums and buletins and stuff instead of the normail layout. check out my scooter group i started last year [and never use]: http://groups.myspace.com/scooters

i could start the group and just let it run, but i thought twitch might want to moderate.

on SECOND though, the band page is sweet cause you can use mp3s! don't listen to me, i'm tired.

Bent on global domination as we are, one web-page at a time, we have set up both:

http://www.myspace.com/rochesterska
http://groups.myspace.com/rochesterskagroup

(I changed the Group URL because the Music Profile was coming up instead. Not sure if it's a caching thing, but I figured, what the hell, might as well make it as clear as possible.)

A saw a guy at the Ren Fest up in Sterling who had a shirt that said something about Moon Ska on it. I was gonna go over and talk to him, but then my name got called to get my Henna tatoos done.

I have the Chinese Calligraphy symbol for Spirit on my left palm, with a Native American-esque pattern coming around my wrist and down my hand and to the tip of my middle finger. It's awesome.

Then I have Kokopelli on my right ankle. I can't wait to actually get it tatooed there.

Hehe, I almost have the parental units convinced.

Wait. Think about it. Then wait some more. And think some more.

Anyway. Think about what you want done - existing design, adapted design, original artwork, size, linework, shading, color. Think about placement - do you want to show it off? Will it restrict your job opportunities? How many nerve endings are there in that area? How much is it going to hurt? How complex is the design? How long will it take the artist? Are you still going to be in love with it ten, twenty, thirty years down the line, or will you be embarrassed? If you go with color in an exposed area, are you willing to slap sunblock on it every time you go outdoors? How will it look if the colors fade? Will the level of detail hold up over time?

If all those questions don't make your head hurt, you're not thinking about it hard enough. And if your head does hurt, it's not half as bad as the needle carving into your skin.

I'm lucky that when I got the itch for ink, the two that I had done express something essential, keys to that-which-is-Twitch. I considered a few that, in hindsight, were merely phases. But I lucked out, and instead of embarassments, I ended up with points of pride.
