I assume she meant the Fayetteville-Manlius area. Ari is a very busy girl between school, the crew team, her job and now singing for Magic Goat. I suspect for some reason she was in a hurry when she posted that. :goatee:

Nah, you're confusing them with Mattydale.

Well, if you're pressed for time, that could be very practical.

I used to live in the apartment above the shop I work at, shortest commute ever

Like Dan of Magic Goat said, there are pretty much rich, middle class and poor people everywhere. There may be more rich people than average in Skaneateles and more poor people than average on the westside of Syracuse, but again, there are even rich and poor in both those areas as well. I proudly live in the City of Syracuse, which people in the rest of Onondaga County like to slam for supposedly having all the serious problems.

We have to make fun of the stereotypes to get people to recognize that's all they are. Even if "most" people of a certain area or ethnicity or religion or whatever follow a certain pattern, it certainly doesn't mean they "always" follow that pattern and its hurtful to suggest otherwise. I was trying to make fun of the notion that everyone in Manlius is rich. I wasn't trying to suggest there was anything wrong with Mattydale, sorry.

Haha, it's chill. I live in North Syracuse so Mattydale is like the asshole of it.

My first reply along with my account got erased when the forum went down, so I figure, why not respond in this little thread again?

1. I'm Katie. I'm from Camillus, but I currently go to school at Stony Brook on Long Island, and I'm studying history. Oh, and I play bass and sing in Track IX, a pop-punk/cover band.
2. I don't remember really how I got into ska, I think mostly from just hearing randomly here and there, then deciding I wanted to hear more.
3. Streetlight Manifesto, The Flaming Tsunamis, The Robobuddies, Tip the Van, among others.
4. How welcoming and extremely friendly it is. Also, I like that it is a very active scene, at least in Syracuse.
5. Probably my favorite was winning a T-shirt at the Tip the Van show last November during their dance-off. The "final" Raz Sum show last June was also highlight, mainly because it was birthday, and it was the best birthday ever.

1) Your name, where you live, some general stuff like that.

I'm Johnny, I live in PA, but Justine is making me move to Syracuse because PA sucks and we can't afford to move to Chicago (even though we totally can, she just won't admit it).

2) How did you get into ska?

When I was 14 or 15 or something like that, I went to boarding school, and this kid in my dorm, Jeff Smith was into ska. I remember listening to Skankin' Pickle's Fever and Less Than Jake's Hello Rockview while we played N64 in his dorm room. Hell, come to think of it, I think he was from Rochester... somebody might know him... tell him to hit me up! I still have his copy of Fever.

3) What are some of your favorite ska bands?

Does Bedouin Soundclash count? Less Than Jake, MU330, Skankin' Pickle, Potshot... honestly I'm more into punk than ska.

4) What do you like about the ska scene?

I've only ever been to like, 2 shows up there, so I'll have to get back to this one in a few months.

5) What are some of your favorite moments from shows?

Nothing to do with Syracuse OR ska, but the last night of the Rock Against Bush tour when Thomas from Strike Anywhere pulled me out from backstage to sing the last chorus of "To The World" with him was pretty friggin' awesome.

It's a good thing we aren't going there right away. I'd like to see how that law that's essentially make all-ages shows impossible to host in Chicagoplays out.
