I don't know though, I feel like the upbeat and happy ska sort of feels fake. I listen to it and I'm like "no way"

Maybe I'm just emo.

I don't really like ska anymore because of that fakeness.

Just because its a "happy beat" doesn't mean you can't talk about serious stuff with it. Check out The Slackers for a great example or even The Specials, for another. I wish ska bands would stop thinking that serious lyrics with a good dance upbeat are somehow depressing, because they're clearly not. You can still examine the ugliness in the world without losing your sense of optimism to change it.

These are common thoughts when all you listen to is shitty "Ska" music.

BOOO HISSS BAAAAN

haha

Yeah, I kind of like this so called "fakeness" of third wave ska. It just seems immature and silly and fun, and I think if you lose this you may lose the fun of music, but also some bands can take this sound and put some serious meaning behind it, in particular a non ska band I'm currently hearing, They Might Be Giants. On the ska end it seems that most serious lyrics are on the more serious sounding songs. Some Less Than Jake songs are fun yet serious, Chinkees are fuc.king golden at this though.

So yeah...

Holaa.
1.) I'm Ari, I live in FM. I'm singing for Goat and have been going to the shows for a couple years.
2.) I'm not really sure how I got into ska, but I'm pretty sure it had to do with Tastes of Syracuse and bugging the Subcat Records people to give us free CD's. It worked, and I had "About the Little Things" on repeat for a good couple days.
3.) Big D, The English Beat, Jimmy Cliff, Less Than Jake, Sonic Boom, and then some.
4.) The music, the people, the workout.
5.) Suburban Legends playing Under the Sea, and watching my friend's face when she found out that that drummer she just made out with was the same age as her English teacher.

and I like nice people.
