Wow, this is a hard question for me.

Well, RIGHT NOW I'd say these 5 bands:

The Aggrolites
Hepcat
The Hotknives
The Specials
Streetlight Manifesto

Mind you, I've only seen Hepcat from that list so far ...

Since we're all about the dream...

The Gadjits, circa 97/98.
The Slackers.

and headlining would be...

Sublime, and they would play the entire 40 oz to freedom album.

Wow, I'm jealous. My friend Ryan just saw them in March (I think it was March) in Anaheim.

Yeah, I've seen them only once so far, May 2004 at the House of Blues in Chicago. Same weekend I did my little part to help launch ChicagoSka.com. :D

(It's why I have both of the Chicago Ska buttons)

Anyways, I've always loved Hepcat, but seeing them live (as a guest of Chuck Wren of Jump Up Records) was A M A Z I N G. They are very much a band you must see live to really appreciate. Same with Suburban Legends, although, no offense to the Orange County guys, Hepcat is waaaaay more talented, both musically and on stage. Alex Desert never acknowledged all the cries of "Becker!", but then again, I get the impression he sees his TV career as a very separate thing from his music career. But the way Alex Desert and Greg Lee interact on stage is something you really must see live to fully appreciate. Its quite magical.

For those who know little to nothing of Hepcat: San Diego Union-Tribune article.

Also on that same show was Deal's Gone Bad, which I've always enjoyed live, and The Zvooks, who played their last ever show that night. Interestingly, The Zvooks had no vocals at all, which is a daring style.

Definitely catch Hepcat sometime!!!

Of bands that are still together and playing shows:

Dance Hall Crashers (they're sorta together- they did two shows in november)
Streetlight Manifesto
RxBandits
Mad Caddies
The Suicide Machines

If I can throw a local opener- Bomb the Music Industry or ASOB

If I could resurrect bands:

Sublime
Operation Ivy
Edna's Goldfish (once was not enough)
Skankin' Pickle
One Cool Guy

If I can throw a local opener on, What's Your Problem Brian? (once was not enough)

You can throw Buck-O-Nine on either list...

Wow. I only got to see them once in Syosset, Long Island NY, but I really liked them. Anita and I became fast friends. But it seems like I helped indirectly break them up, which sucks.

But at least Anita introduced me to Daly's Gone Wrong, which I really, really like. She told me, "yeah, I know them all very well. In fact ... I've seen them all naked before." The band non-chalantly confirmed that was true, but they said it'd be better to not get into the details ...

The only time I ever got to see WYPB was at their last show at the Downtown in Farmingdale, Long Island when they were opening for Catch 22. I fell in love quickly, only to have my heart broken realizing it was their last show.

I do love Daly's Gone Wrong. Didn't the WYPB horn section do the horns on "The Remix" on the DGW album.

I don't even want to ask how you indirectly helped break them up.

I don't know how much you know about ASOB, but Jay Tea (the keyboard player) dated Andrea, and on his solo demo, he has a song about her called "Rockstar Couple" from when they were together, and then it's followed by "The '86 Mets Were Awesome" which is a 30 second song from after they broke up, and it's pretty harsh (Read as: awesome). Actually, I think Jay Tea is the one who booked WYPB? on the show I was at...

Oh man, speaking of getting into a band right before they break up...

Last year I was in some random music chat room because I was bored, and some kid IMed me and told me to download Passerby by Dispatch. VERY reggae-esque. They're a jam band from Boston, or at least they were. They played their last concert 7.31.04 last year at the Hatch Shell. 100,000 people were there, more than Phish's farewell show.

I had my dad listen to them and he loved them, so he picked me up from a show I was performing in at like 11pm on 7.30 (I do lots of community theatre,) and we drove straight from the show to Boston. We paid $70 to rent a hotel room that we only slept in for 4 hours, and then went down to the Hatch Shell at like 10am.

I waited 5 horus in line for autographs, and they left the table when I was like 5 feet away. Then we went and sat in the grass in front of the stage. There were so many people there, and everyone was being brutal about getting a spot up front. It was above 90 out that day, and sunny all day, I had no sunblock, and we sat there for 4 hours waiting for the concert to start with no water and having only had coffee and a doughnut from Dunkin Doughnuts for breakfast.

The show started at 5. Dispatch played for 5 hours straight. My dad and I were right up front, 3 people from the front rail, center stage, the ENTIRE time.

It was amazing. Easily the best concert I've EVER been to. After the show I went back to the merch tent and bought 2 shirts and pre-ordered their CD/DVD that came out this past November for $5 off the regular price.

When I got home I immediately e-mailed people who work with the band and got in their rep list. I ended up in the first 100 kids from all around the US who signed up to rep for All Points Bulletic (that's the CD/DVD) and so I got some of the first mass e-mails and stuff. I did a crap load of work for them, and in return I got autographed stuff, and a handwritten letter from Chad, their guitar player, because he's amazing and I love him. And then of course the usual rep parties and back stage invites and blah blah blah.

Yeah, so that had nothing to do with ska, but we were talking about getting into a band and then having them break up. I only listened to Dispatch for like 6 monthes before they had their final concert.

I can't wait, I'm working now because they're coming out with a movie/documentary thing. The primiere is the weekend of 7.31 in Boston. I'm trying to convince my parents now to let me hitch a ride up with some reps I've worked with the past year to go. :)
