My Googling reveals:

The English Beat, Water Street Music Hall, Rochester, NY on Sat 22 Oct 2005

This would strongly suggest that Water Street already knows what its getting, since the lineup presumably is probably no different a year later.

I also found: Dave Wakeling's English Beat at Montage Grille in Rochester on Sat, Oct 5, 2002

A comment about the recent tours: "Dave Wakeling performs under the English Beat name and performs Beat and General Public songs"

Here's a link to a show earlier this year in Hawaii where it was billed as General Public featuring Dave Wakeling. Interesting that he uses whatever name sells tickets, I guess ...

BTW, this was a big issue also with Neville Staple on his last US tour. The original booker for the tour sold all the venues on "The Specials" playing, just to find out when they got the contracts that it was just Neville Staple OF The Specials playing. Most venues bailed and I got him as a result of all the cancellations (including Monty's Crown). Without the lure of "The Specials" to get people in the door, the tour failed miserably.

I'm sure whoever is booking Dave Wakeling is feeling the same pressure.

That said, in the interest of truth-in-advertising, I'm billing this as "Dave Wakeling of the English Beat". That's more honest and allows people to decide for themselves if the money is worth it ...

I agree.

It's especially ridiculous if he's coming back the next week; the quick buck they make burning people the first time will go up in flames for the second performance, but if they're confident Wakeling will go over well both times, why bill it so evasively?

I wonder how it will be billed in the local media...

What I hate is how almost everyone is using the old photo ... that's quite deceptive ...

That's why I flipped out - I saw the photo and assumed it must be a reunion.

But then I didn't know the band's history, and had no clue about the falling out between Wakeling and Ranking Roger...
